Psychotherapy for Helping Professionals

Psychotherapy for Helping Professionals

As a helping professional and a psychotherapist myself, I deeply value the importance of engaging in our own personal therapy, particularly depth-oriented psychotherapy. Therapy is not only about coping, self-regulation, or seeking validation. It is an opportunity to deepen our understanding of ourselves, recognize recurring patterns, become aware of blind spots, and work with aspects of ourselves that may remain outside of conscious awareness, or what some called "shadow."

Many of us enter helping professions because we genuinely want to help others. Yet an important question remains: What does "helping" mean to us? What motivations, needs, or longings might exist beneath our conscious intentions? When a client is not improving in the way we had hoped, how do we make sense of that experience? How does it affect our sense of competence, worth, or identity as a helper?

These questions often point toward deeper patterns that have accompanied us throughout our lives, many of which originated in our early relationships and developmental experiences. By exploring these patterns, we are not only supporting our own growth and healing; we are also enhancing our capacity to provide ethical, attuned, and effective care to those we serve.

I am passionate about supporting helping professionals, including psychotherapists, social workers, healthcare providers, and others in caring roles, in their personal and professional development. Through the NeuroAffective Relational Model (NARM) and a psychoanalytic lens, we move beyond symptom management and surface-level strategies to explore the deeper terrain of our internal world, a place that may feel unfamiliar, vulnerable, or even intimidating, yet holds tremendous potential for growth, freedom, and transformation.

Whether you are early in your career or have been practicing for many years, psychotherapy can provide a space to reflect, deepen self-awareness, and reconnect with the person behind the professional role.
