What is psychotherapy?Psychotherapy, or counselling, is a collaborative process between a therapist and a client. It is to help individuals explore and address various emotional, psychological, and behavioral challenges in order to foster psychological change and personal growth. In psychotherapy, you have a safe and supportive space to explore your internal experiences, including emotions, thoughts, bodily sensations. It's a process that can be tailored to your unique needs and concerns, aimed at promoting emotional well-being and improved mental health.

What do I need to prepare before my first session? After your first appointment is confirmed, I will send you an informed consent form and an intake form. The informed consent form essentially serves as our "contract" to work together, so please take some time to review it thoroughly before signing. It's important that you feel comfortable with the terms and conditions we'll be working under. If you have any questions or concerns about these documents, please don't hesitate to email me at any time, or you can bring them to our first session for us to discuss together.

What does it look like in a therapy session?I always begin our sessions by asking you a simple but important question: "What do you want for yourself from our time together?" This is a key step in ensuring that our work is focused on what truly matters to you. Rather than making assumptions about your needs, I want to hear your voice and your desires. I can assure you that it's not uncommon for clients to respond with "I don't know." And that's absolutely okay! Especially for those who may have been disconnected from themselves for a long time, this question can be a bit challenging. But fear not, because that's exactly where our journey begins - in the exploration of reconnecting to your heart's desire and true self.

You're a stranger to me... Do I have to tell you everything in therapy?I understand that there's a common belief that therapy means revealing every detail and going through the whole story of "what happened." However, my approach is different. I recognize that as a therapist, I'm initially a stranger to you, and trust is something that needs to be built over time. In our sessions, you're in control. You can choose to share as much or as little as you feel comfortable. We'll go at a pace that feels right for you.

How many sessions do I need to solve my problems? This is an excellent question, and I understand that clients often seek prompt solutions to their problems or relief from distress. However, it's important for me to be upfront: Psychotherapy is not a quick fix, and it certainly isn't a magic solution. Here's my perspective on psychotherapy, which you might find valuable before deciding to work with me: In my view, psychotherapy isn't about merely "fixing" things or using strategies to solve problems. The ultimate goal of psychotherapy is to bring about psychological change, which is beyond “What we do.” When working with clients, I don’t rush or effort to get somewhere. If we go too fast and try too hard to achieve something, we might miss things that potentially can bring us learning about ourselves and opportunities for change. When we take things slow, instead, we can uncover the root causes of your distress by exploring different aspects of your experiences – cognitive, emotional, somatic, relational, and spiritual. This gradual process helps us expand our capacity (“window of tolerance”, our ability to handle these feelings) and create room for all sorts of internal and external experiences. Eventually, we can have a different relationship with these experiences (an internal shift), from where we regain the Agency.

What happens if I have to cancel a session or don't show up?Things can happen unexpectedly, and I understand that. If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, please let me know with more than 24 hours' notice, and there won't be any charges incurred. However, if you must cancel within 24 hours of the session or fail to attend without prior notice, the full session fee ($170) will be charged to cover my time, with the exception of emergency or sickness.
